Arrow Bergen Bot Rodeo?

I know a million people complain about the "bots" everywhere, but I thought I would try to share a little experience some guildies and I had after our HA group fell apart (yes, we still do that, no flames!).

We just decided to go check out the bots we all see everywhere. We hit up Granite, Marketplace, all that goods stuff, but at Bergen we had some fun trying to get these little Mo/Ws into our group.

The first few couple of times we laughed for a while as the bot went and farmed us some drops. That blue dye is getting a special place in storage, no doubt. Then we graduated to trying to foul the bots up; getting them killed before they had all their prot spells on. Or we would get two and watch them race. Fun times while sleep deprived.

But then things got interesting. Yes, we actually managed to snag some with actual human beings behind them. If anyone is curious, they speak at least rudimentary Mandarin with a handful of English euphemisms.

How do we know it wasn't one smart bot? We got a couple of them "wrangled." A guildie tried to test them. He dropped a couple gold. They both ran for it, but one, after not getting the gold, went back to farming. The other one followed him, clearly begging for more. He would move away, he/she would follow, even orientating his character to face my friend, and even dropping a few things in return, as if just to show that he was there. Ah, cross-culture communication.

I'm not trying to troll or anything here, and yeah, the vast majority of what we encountered were computer programs, but who knows what was going on with these people? ANet can't just drop a ban hammer like everyone wants 'em to.

Also, I learned many new ways to swear in Mandarin. Bonus.

Err, bots have been here since loot scaling came out. Bots don't use HM anyway.

Yes, but this is hilarious!
It's like a nature documentary where they follow and observe the rituals and instincts of a bot. lol

Bot wrangling is fun.

Friend of mine did it one day cause he didn't have a 55 and wanted to mess with them after I told him which ones were the bots.

Anyways he got some drops, some did nothing, and he tried communicating with them with no luck.

But yeah, way more fun then just sitting in town pointing all the bots out. " what bots in hot springs? no way!!"

Seriously, I farmed Bergen for a while and one day these peeps were just talking about all the bots there for like 5 hours. Talking about Chuck Norris in RA is more constructive then that.

really though how do you get em to join you're group? seems odd that a bot would have a measure to accept invites o.O and none have never accepted my invites... i think you just got some weirdo that was acting like a bot

Exclamation

I went to Bergen bot springs a while back to get some screens of the activity, tried trading with the bots, but unfortunately got no reply - I can second that not all the farmers at these places are bots, i tried whisping a fair few and had some funny replies coming back...

Me :" Im taking screenshots of the bots here to send to arena net, are you a bot lol?"
Farmer monk: " Show me"
Me: " I cant, its a screenshot"
Farmer Monk: " can show you"
Me: " How"

And then i stopped getting anymore replies

Default A Little Clarification

Sounds like a lot of people are wondering just how you get one into your party to wrangle.

I don't know exactly how the bot scripts work, so I cannot say for sure, but my experience was as such: you have to stand exactly in the right spot, and they will invite you, not the other way around.

Also, I should mention that when it really is a program and not a person, I have found that they are only good for one ride (though, I was doing this with a few other people. This may be different if you are alone and the bot is the party leader). It would exit Bergen, do its thing, walk back into Bergen, then map out. Since it wasn't the party leader, it would leave the party to do this, so I have no idea where they were mapping to from Bergen; I just know they weren't logging off. If someone gets a bot to lead them from area to area, please document your findings.

And last of all, enjoy the bot rodeo.
